Red Bull motorcycle Grand Prix at Indy

August 31, 2009

Below is a short clip of part of the Red Bull GP at Indy on Sunday 8/30/09. My son and his two oldest boys and I attended. My son and his older boy thought they were cool. His middle son was not too impressed and I will honestly say I will probably not return. I felt the same about the Indianapolis 500 race also. One year in my early teens I sold papers at the track while the 500 was being run and sneaked in a few peeks at it and never cared to return – “different strokes for different folks.”

Meals-on-Two-Wheels

August 24, 2009

I recently started delivering for Meals-on-Wheels and found a huge soft sided bag that was made for motorcycles. Both blue Meals-on-Wheels bags fit nicely into it. You can see them “peeping” out a bit at the top of the black bag but they are securely held in place by two straps. I was a little surprised by how just four meals with all of the extras could change the balance of the motorcycle. Of course my machine is small and weighs only 325 pounds. Now if only it were heavier like a Harley Davidson Dyna. Hey, I just did a demo ride on a Dyna last Friday – what a coincidence. I may have to upgrade for (cough, cough) safety’s sake. Actually I have been going back and forth in my mind for several days about upgrading. I even burdened the Lord with my silliness and prayed “over” it. I have talked to two dealers who have one I like; it is shown below the Meals-on-Wheels pose. I have started riding a bit on the interstates and my little Rebel heroically tries to accelerate fast enough for me to get out of the way of the “crazies” (those exiting at 80 MPH) but even though it has good acceleration at low speeds its top end is not good. The HD Dyna with almost 7 times the “cc’s” can’t wait to get onto the interstates and terrorize all in its wake (I would not let it behave like that). I may bite the bullet and upgrade. I do hate to spend the money but as one of my neighbors reminded me “Life is short and you are dead for a long time” so we shall see.

Another kudo for bone density scans

August 24, 2009

As mentioned on this blog a couple of times because of personal experiences bone density can be a problem for both men and women. “Men’s Health” magazine recently published an article lauding its value along with a few other screenings they believe to be worthwhile:
